  • K-9 Bella, the nine year old bloodhound who helped locate over 20 missing individuals in more than 100 calls, passed away Tuesday after complications during a vet visit.   • Sidewalk activist Kevin Cox is urging city officials to revise their snow clearing approach (icy sidewalks still pose a risk after recent snowfall).  29 News
  • The Building Goodness Foundation partnered with Beck Cohen to help local homeowners who lost heat or power from the winter storm. They are making HVAC systems available through an application process and ask homeowners to call (434) 973-0993 or apply online for assistance.  29 News

  • Former UVA President Jim Ryan accepted the Legend in Leadership Award on Tuesday at the Yale Higher Education Leadership Summit at the Yale School of Management in New Haven, Conn. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, chilly temperatures in Charlottesville put residents at risk for frozen pipes that can burst and cause costly water damage. Data from State Farm shows over 20,000 claims since last winter with average payouts exceeding $30,000, and experts advise shutting off water immediately if a burst occurs.  29 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Student Council launched a pilot free Plan B program on Jan.21 at Student Health & Wellness pharmacy to offer emergency contraception to students with no cost or tracking, providing more privacy than credit card purchases.   • Scientists at the University of Virginia made progress on stopping a rare autoimmune disease that hardens the skin and organs; further trials will test new treatment options in the coming months.  29 News
