COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Architect Mike Stoneking of Stoneking von Storch Architects has designed plans for walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods that emphasize affordability + connection over the next two decades. He invites local residents to share ideas for Charlottesville Tomorrow’s 20th anniversary celebration.  Charlottesville Tomorrow
  • Lo Davis, executive director of CAV Futures Marketing, works with minority-owned businesses and local youth to open doors and build confidence in Charlottesville. Since 2020, business groups and United Way have awarded over $150,000 to support small enterprise growth.  29 News
  • Charlottesville launched an ambassador program on Feb. 4 hiring six full-time representatives to welcome visitors downtown and boost hospitality, cleanliness, and business engagement ahead of the Mall's 50th anniversary. Ambassadors work Wednesday through Sunday (1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.) under a two-year pilot funded by the city's Capital Improvement Program.  29 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pep Banned, a documentary on the UVA Pep Band, will screen at the Paramount on March 28 at 7:30 p.m. The film, which premiered at the Virginia Film Festival, will include a panel discussion (with band members and filmmakers) after the screening.  Cville Right Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Virginia released its first quarterly diversity, equity, and inclusion report to the DOJ — outlining changes at its schools of medicine, nursing and commerce. Officials said the report marks the first phase of revising longstanding academic practices.  The Daily Progress

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Abigail Spanberger plans to rejoin RGGI (a program taxing carbon emissions to fund local infrastructure) as lawmakers work to resolve legal hurdles. Charlottesville and nearby areas may soon benefit from increased funds for flood mitigation and energy efficiency projects.  Cville Right Now

  • Charlottesville Parks and Rec has opened registration for its 2026 summer camp programs for city residents. Families can sign up now for summer activities at local parks (inquiries at Parks and Rec).  29 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVA Health Children’s earned national recognition as a Pediatric Sedation Center of Excellence, making it the first hospital in Virginia to receive the honor. Hospital leaders said the designation followed a year-long review of safe, compassionate sedation practices for children.  29 News
  • Caring For Creatures has spent four years managing a local cat colony — providing spay/neuter, vaccinations, and food to keep the cats healthier and safer. The group warns that without proper care, unmanaged colonies can quickly grow and lead to preventable suffering.  Cville Right Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • UVA’s men’s and women’s lacrosse openers moved to Lower Turf Field on Grounds due to icy conditions at Klöckner Stadium and are closed to the public. The women face Navy Friday at 4 p.m. while the men face Colgate Sunday at noon + games stream on ACC Network Extra.  Cville Right Now
  • Virginia sports programs are thriving under coaches Tony Elliott, Ryan Odom, and Chris Pollard. Elliott led football to record wins while Odom revived men’s basketball, and Pollard is set to build on baseball’s legacy — each coach affirming a bright future on the field.  The Cavalier Daily
  • The Cavaliers won 67-56 over Miami on Thursday night at John Paul Jones Arena, snapping a recent slump with their tight defense.
