  • Melody Barnes addressed the Jefferson Society on Friday evening as the first Distinguished Speaker Series event, discussing the Karsh Institute’s role in fostering civic engagement and democratic research.   • Christian Garcia (new Associate VP at the Career Center from the University of Miami after a 24-year tenure) said at Tuesday’s Student Council meeting that he will expand employer partnerships and create more mentoring and internship opportunities; the meeting also included student council updates on mutual aid and legal services.  The Cavalier Daily

  • Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority is increasing oxygen in its aeration basins to turn ammonia into a less harmful nitrogen as temperatures drop. The change keeps water quality high despite a slow snow melt, ensuring treated water remains safe for wildlife.  29 News
  • Central Virginia farmers face mixed challenges as thick ice thaws and clear heavy ice from outbuildings (which can hinder access and affect livestock safety). They watch temperature changes closely to limit flooding on their fields.  29 News

  • Coach Chris Pollard (former Duke head coach) leads Virginia baseball as he retools the roster with transfers and returnees. The team plays Friday against Wagner in a weekend home series.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia’s women’s basketball beat Notre Dame 81-70 on Sunday as three Cavaliers scored in double digits and honored coach Debby Ryan (celebrating 34 seasons) at John Paul Jones Arena. They will face Cal on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. and Stanford on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.  Cville Right Now
  • After a mercy-rule loss to Arkansas in Conway, the Cavaliers bounced back in the Kickin’ Chicken Classic with four wins in five games—strong plays from Eaton, Hylton, and pitcher Layne led the recovery. They will host Delaware State on Feb. 13 before heading to Farmville.  The Cavalier Daily
