CULTURE NEWS

  • Carolyn Dillard of the University’s Center of Community Partnerships discussed Dr. King’s legacy and the annual MLK Day events in a recent podcast, highlighting key moments from Dr. Imani Perry’s keynote (a nod to community resilience and responsibility).  The Cavalier Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The student-run committee processed three cases and has 11 pending as the spring semester ends. It is preparing for Judiciary Week (March 9 to 13) with newly trained support members and will hold representative elections in February.  The Cavalier Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local officials announced that the deadline for filing the business license tax in Charlottesville is fast approaching, urging businesses to complete their filings soon to avoid penalties. Businesses should review city guidelines for proper submission.  29 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pregnant Virginians are now eligible to enroll in health coverage on Virginia’s Insurance Marketplace year-round (effective Jan. 31) to access vital prenatal care, according to the Virginia Poverty Law Center which promoted the new law after last year’s legislative vote.  3WV

SPORTS NEWS

  • No. 15 Virginia women’s tennis lost four to two against No. 14 Tennessee and then won four to one against Northwestern in their final duals before conference play. The Cavaliers will face Virginia Tech on Feb. 18.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia's men's lacrosse team won 19-14 at a spectator-free George Welsh Indoor Football Practice facility on Sunday when faceoff specialist Henry Metz scored his second career goal (a highlight in the season opener) to secure the win against Colgate.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia's basketball team is ranked No. 15 after wins last week and will play Florida State today (7 p.m.) before heading to Nashville on Saturday (8 p.m.) to face Ohio State as part of the Nashville Hoops Showdown.  29 News
  • The Cavaliers defeated Notre Dame 81 to 70 (ending a six year home losing streak) last Sunday and now will face California on Thursday at 10 p.m. on ACCNX and Stanford on Sunday at 2 p.m. on the CW Network.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia coach Ryan Odom said his revamped team reached 20 wins this season as his players quickly came together at UVA, marking his first year in charge.  The Daily Progress
