CULTURE NEWS

  • A local book club highlights four books that explore Black experiences (including Homegoing and The Color of Water) during Black History Month for Charlottesville readers seeking diverse narratives on race and identity.  The Cavalier Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Honor Committee will host Honor Week from Feb. 16 to Feb. 20 with events on AI ethics, academic integrity, and student governance in venues like Jefferson Hall and the Thornton Rodman Room.   • The Albemarle County School Board approved its first collective bargaining agreements on Thursday night in Charlottesville, setting new terms for licensed and unlicensed school workers with pay increases, longer meal breaks, and parental leave (including increased planning time and duty-free lunch) to improve working conditions.  Cville Right Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Charlottesville updated its e-bike voucher program to add income-based requirements that residents must meet to apply (a change aimed at ensuring eligible assistance).  CBS 19 News
  • Gov. Abigail Spanberger awarded over $4.9 million in grants for Virginia’s food systems, with more than $1 million going to local organizations.  CBS 19 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Virginia men’s basketball had an up-and-down start in ACC play— a triple overtime loss to Virginia Tech opened the season before 10 wins in 11 conference games. The Cavaliers now sit near the top and will face Duke on Feb. 28 and Virginia Tech on March 7.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia softball extended its win streak to five with a 20 to 0 win over Delaware State at Palmer Park on Friday, with all runs scored in the first two innings. The team will travel to Farmville today at 12:30 p.m. for the Longwood Invitational.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Coach Chris Pollard led his Cavaliers to a 13-7 win over Wagner at Disharoon Park Friday as the team rallied from a six-run inning setback. The Cavaliers will face Wagner in a doubleheader Saturday (first game at noon, second game 45 minutes later).  The Cavalier Daily
  • The Virginia women’s swimming team prepares for the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships on Sunday in Atlanta after a season of record-breaking times, and coach Todd DeSorbo lets swimmers choose their events to build confidence (helping them get ready for the NCAA meet).  The Cavalier Daily
  • The Virginia men’s golf team broke its record with an 18-stroke win at the Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 9 at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico (breaking previous best scores).
