EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At UVA Board of Visitors meeting today, the board will name a new rector and vice rector with 10 new appointees approved by Gov. Spanberger. The pair will complete the two-year term ending June 30, 2027 as Charlottesville residents join the list including Robert Byron and Peter Grant II. Cville Right Now
- ➤ UVA researchers visit high school art classes to share their research & art projects as part of the annual art show. The program offers students a creative way to blend science and art while sparking new discussions and learning experiences. 29 News
- ➤ Student Council leaders at the University of Virginia urged unity after a Jan. 27 resolution backed President Beardsley amid concerns over the appointment process. They clarified that a $500,000 funding discussion for student services was separate from the resolution and said they continue to work with administrators on student issues. The Cavalier Daily

- ➤ Southbound lanes of Jefferson Park Avenue (south of Emmet Street) will be under construction from Feb. 19 to March 23, with detours and delays expected per the City of Charlottesville release. 29 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new analysis from UVA Health in Charlottesville shows that older adults with Medicare Advantage receive preventive care like blood thinners and smoking cessation support but attend rehab less often than traditional Medicare patients, although overall stroke recovery is similar (research reviewed seven studies after screening over 1,300). 29 News
- ➤ A decades-long federal study of nearly 3,000 older adults found that computer brain training exercises with booster sessions may lower dementia risk by 25% over 20 years. Experts caution that physical exercise, social engagement, and managing health issues remain proven ways to protect brain health. 29 News

- ➤ Wintergreen Resort is experiencing its busiest ski season in five years thanks to strong winter sports enthusiasm and favorable snow conditions (which draw many visitors) as activity picks up this season. - ➤ The Cavaliers broke records with a first half lead of 64 to 27 and a final score of 94 to 68 over Georgia Tech on Wednesday— their best ACC opening since 1983. UVA will host Miami on Saturday with a pregame ceremony honoring former Coach Tony Bennett. The Cavalier Daily
- ➤ UVA Women’s Basketball will play three final games this season, starting with a road game against No. 8 Louisville on Sunday and then home contests with North Carolina and Virginia Tech in Charlottesville; coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton says the matchups will help prepare the team for the March tournament. 29 News
