COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Charlottesville’s curbside leaf collection will resume Monday, Feb. 23 after a winter delay. Residents are advised to check city guidelines for proper leaf placement.  29 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Charlottesville City Schools and the police department are planning to bring school resource officers back by hiring two Virginia-certified officers—one for Charlottesville High School and one for Charlottesville Middle School; both sides will work together to choose the best candidates.  29 News
  • The UVA Board of Visitors named Carlos M. Brown Jr. as Rector and Victoria D. Harker as vice rector in a Friday meeting. They begin their term immediately and will serve until June 30, 2027 (replacing vacancies from recent resignations).  Cville Right Now
  • On Feb. 19, 191 University faculty sent a letter to the Board of Visitors asking for clearer steps behind President Beardsley’s appointment. They urged the new board to pause the provost search and review the process to restore shared governance (their call for change).  The Cavalier Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Albemarle County Executive Jeff Richardson will present on Wednesday at noon in Room 241 (County Office Building) the proposed 2026-27 budget that includes a request for a fourth high school and funds for housing and public safety. Some Supervisors said bonds and a one-cent sales tax referendum may be needed.  Cville Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Feb. 19, the Virginia Department of Health recommended that children follow the American Academy of Pediatrics vaccine schedule instead of federal guidelines to maintain high vaccination coverage. Pediatric experts said the evidence-based recommendation, which offers protection against 18 diseases, aligns with current practices in Virginia.  29 News
