  • Delegate Amy Laufer said the Senate should keep $400 million in flexible funding for local schools in Charlottesville and Albemarle (officials say the current property and income-based index leaves schools shortchanged).   • University staff, students and residents met at Charlottesville Middle School on Feb. 21 to discuss expanding collective bargaining for higher education workers. Hosted by United Campus Workers of Virginia, the town hall examined proposals to boost wages, healthcare and working conditions before legislative talks conclude March 14.  The Cavalier Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Virginia softball earned its 19th win at the Party at Palmer Invitational on Sunday as freshman Weismer’s hit clinched a 6–2 victory over Michigan. The team will face Radford Tuesday and then North Carolina next weekend (coach Hardin said the wins prepare the team for ACC play).  The Cavalier Daily
  • The Virginia Cavaliers men's tennis team beat SMU after junior Dietrich upset top-ranked Svajda in three sets at outdoor courts. The team will now travel to California for dual matches against California and Stanford (travel is scheduled soon).  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia’s women’s basketball nearly came back from a 23-point deficit at John Paul Jones Arena on Senior Day but fell short in the final second when Virginia Tech’s Carleigh Wenzel sank both free throws to win 83-82.   • Virginia Motorsports (a student-run engineering team of 128 members) has joined the VA250 Car Project to support a 250 mph stock car record attempt in Cape Canaveral from March 24 to 26 and will compete at Michigan International Speedway in June.  The Cavalier Daily
