- ➤ Construction of a $2.5M pedestrian bridge began today to connect Southwood to Albemarle’s largest park, offering ADA-accessible entry from Fifth Street neighborhoods. 29 News
- ➤ On Tuesday, March 3, Charlottesville celebrated Liberation and Freedom Day at UVA Chapel where UVA’s Division for Community Engagement and Equal Opportunity and the Descendants of Enslaved Communities marked the 1865 event freeing enslaved people. The program featured bell tolls, a keynote address, communal luncheon plus an optional memorial tour. 29 News
- ➤ After being missing for 120 days, pet cat Elanor was found on Monday morning near the Scales's Westbrook Pl. home after drifting about half a mile away. A vet check (showing she lost a pound and had poultry mites) confirmed that she is healthy and back with her family. Cville Right Now

- ➤ UVA’s Hullabahoos won Reser’s Fine Foods’ Good Times Jingle Competition, earning $25,000 and travel expenses to perform at the Patricia Reser Center in Beaverton. They traveled to the West Coast in early February — marking their first trip out of Charlottesville. Cville Right Now

- ➤ AstraZeneca is building a pharmaceutical plant in northern Albemarle County that is projected to bring more than $709 million over 25 years + reshape the commercial tax base and help avoid property tax increases. Officials say the facility will raise the county’s commercial share from 11% to about 15%. 29 News
- ➤ UVA economists say 2025 was one of Virginia’s worst economic years since the pandemic — federal layoffs and a government shutdown hurt the state’s financial outlook as leaders assess recovery plans. 29 News
