  • The Harvest Church of God Clothes Closet provides free clothing to community members at Harvest Church of God on Rio Road East in Albemarle County. It is open on the first and third Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and offers donated items for men, women, and babies.  29 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Charlottesville have increased as global oil market uncertainty from tensions in the Middle East puts pressure on fuel costs. Local consumers note the rise is part of a broader nationwide trend.  CBS 19 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University recorded its highest Student Council presidential turnout in recent years when 6,924 students voted on Feb. 26, electing third-year Commerce student Michael Mitchell with 51.6 percent of the vote (a notable jump from previous cycles).   • Charlottesville and Albemarle County teachers have finalized collective bargaining contracts—fulfilling a promise made five years after Virginia allowed public sector unions. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Virginia's General Assembly is working to reform University Board of Visitors appointments and terms as both House and Senate bills move through separate chambers before conference. The measures expand board terms from four to six years — adding nonvoting faculty, staff, and student seats to boost oversight.  Cville Right Now
  • The UVa Board of Visitors confirmed that newly appointed President Scott Beardsley will remain in his role and said it will review the process that selected him to improve future appointments.  The Daily Progress

SPORTS NEWS

  • UVA ended its regular season on Saturday with a 76–72 win over Virginia Tech — Malik Thomas and Ugo Onyenso each scored 16 as the teams split their season series for the fifth straight year.  Cville Right Now
  • The Virginia Cavaliers won two of three games against No. 8 North Carolina at home over the weekend, with strong pitching keeping the opposing team to low scores despite one walkoff loss. The team will host William & Mary on Tuesday as they prepare for a series against Virginia Tech later this week.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia’s lacrosse team lost 13-9 at Klöckner Stadium against Towson on Sunday, Mar. 8 — ending a 15-game home win streak. The Cavaliers will try to rebound against Maryland at 1 p.m. Saturday on the Big Ten Network.  The Cavalier Daily
  • The Cavaliers won their ACC opening series in Chapel Hill with standout plays from Bella Cabral, Macee Eaton, and Jade Hylton. They will return home Tuesday to face Hampton before hosting Georgia Tech in a weekend series (upcoming contests).  The Cavalier Daily
