COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dozens of Point Church members have returned safely from Israel after sirens sounded amid escalating conflict, and they traveled by bus and flight — routing through Cairo to reunite with family in Charlottesville.  29 News
  • Charlottesville officials will host a cleanup and homeless outreach event on the Rivanna Trail to boost public safety, protect the environment, and improve community health. The coordinated effort is set to take place soon on the popular trail.  CBS 19 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University data show undergraduate cumulative GPAs rose from 3.24 in 2010 to 3.61 in 2025, with a sharp rise between 2019 & 2020 during the pandemic. Some schools, like Data Science and Nursing, report higher averages while others maintain lower scores, mirroring a national trend in grade inflation.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Customers fueling at Tiger Fuel now help fund the City-wide PTO as Spirit Pump donates one cent per gallon; unveiled on Wednesday at Preston Avenue (supporting local schools), it will run until July 31.  Cville Right Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Piedmont Environmental Council urged state officials to remove the sales tax break for data centers as lawmakers debate next year’s budget — arguing the exemption no longer fits the industry’s impact on our community.  29 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Due to rain in the forecast, the Virginia Department of Transportation has moved the removal of the route 680 detour at Crozet Avenue roundabout from today to Friday, March 13. Crews will finish construction by mid-summer and lane closures will occur overnight only.  Cville Right Now
  • Governor Abigail Spanberger announced $14 million in Homeless Reduction Grants from the Virginia Housing Trust Fund to support 61 projects, including two in Charlottesville. The funds will help local agencies reduce homelessness and bolster housing assistance programs.  CBS 19 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVA Health scientists have advanced a long COVID discovery into the STAT Madness contest by highlighting a missing organelle linked to lung recovery; online voting is open in March plus winners will be announced April 7.  29 News
  • Student Health and Wellness and the Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center brought therapy dogs to campus to help ease academic stress and promote mental health. Madi (11 a.m. to noon on Mondays) and August comfort students during counseling sessions and events on Grounds.  The Cavalier Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • UVA’s Cavaliers improved their defense to 66.1 points allowed per game in 11 matchups and will play in the ACC tournament in Charlotte. Senior guard Dallin Hall credited the team’s connected effort for the notable improvement.  Cville Right Now
  • The Cavaliers beat Hampton 10-0 at Palmer Park in a game that saw all runs scored in one inning. Coach Hardin said the win builds home field momentum as the team prepares to face Georgia Tech on Friday at 5 p.m.  The Cavalier Daily
