  • The UVA baseball team hosted Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia children at Disharoon Park on Wednesday, March 11. The players gave the kids a day to remember as they met the team and got invited to the UVA game against Clemson on April 18.  29 News
  • A local church is now offering temporary shelter for dozens of homeless men as part of its winter housing program. The initiative aims to provide safety and support during the cold season in Charlottesville.  CBS 19 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carlos Brown was chosen as the new rector on Feb. 20 by the University Board of Visitors following leadership changes — he brings four years of board experience from his tenure as vice rector and his work at Dominion Energy.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Hundreds of students attend the Virginia Piedmont Regional Science Fair in Charlottesville, where 170+ projects in science, engineering, technology and math are on display. The event showcases local talent and encourages innovative learning.  29 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Charlottesville Area Transit is partnering with UVA and the city to survey riders throughout March to gather data on boarding, alighting, and transfers for future service improvements.   • Albemarle County officials say a bridge replacement project will close part of a county road for about six weeks — motorists should plan for delays as crews work to improve the road.  CBS 19 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Remote Area Medical will run a free pop-up healthcare clinic at the Augusta Exposition Center in Fishersville on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22, offering dental, vision, and medical services on a first-come, first-served basis with no ID or insurance required.  Charlottesville Tomorrow

  • Virginia softball celebrated Coach Hardin’s 300th win — marked by a playful Gatorade shower from senior infielder Jade Hylton — after a Friday night victory against Ohio State that extended their win streak to 10; the program is riding its renaissance as it aims for a historic season and rising national ranking.  The Cavalier Daily
