COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The University’s Best Buddies chapter builds lasting friendships between students and adults with IDD through monthly events such as last month’s Valentine’s Dance, and it launched a campaign on Grounds on March 9 — promoting respectful language as part of Best Buddies Month.  The Cavalier Daily
  • More than 600 volunteers from The Point Church helped serve the Charlottesville community for its (Reach Day) event on Saturday. The organization led service activities across several neighborhoods in support of local needs.  CBS 19 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ruffin Gallery now displays the ethereal 'We Dream of Life' installation, a 56-foot textile artwork by iris yirei hu and Paula Wilson (commissioned in 2025) that transforms the room into a realm of interconnected life, and visitors can experience it until March 20.  The Cavalier Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Albemarle County School Board requested a $311-million budget to keep schools staffed for the 2026-27 year, and the Board of Supervisors approved it unanimously. The funding allocates 86% of the education sum for salaries and benefits (averaging $95,000 per staff for nearly 2,800 employees).  Cville Right Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Virginia Department of Transportation is teaming up with UVA engineering students to design a pedestrian bridge along U.S. Route 29 in Charlottesville. The new structure will ease movement along one of the city’s busiest corridors.  CBS 19 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Virginia lacrosse will play No. 10 Maryland at 1 p.m. today at SECU Stadium in College Park & the Cavaliers will need aggressive defense and strong goalie play to improve their season.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Duke’s basketball team held off Virginia 74-70 in the ACC tournament final in Charlotte as Isaiah Evans sealed the win with key free throws. Virginia remained close throughout the game, showing they can compete with the top-ranked team.  Cville Right Now
  • The No. 14 Cavaliers beat Virginia Tech 10-5 on Saturday at Disharoon Park as junior catcher Jake Weatherspoon hit a key home run in his season debut, giving Virginia an 11-4 series lead and setting up their game at 1 p.m. today.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia men's tennis defeated Duke 4+1 at the Boar’s Head Sports Club on Friday afternoon, keeping its win streak in ACC play intact. The team will build on that momentum in today's home match against North Carolina.  The Cavalier Daily
