  • Governor Glenn Youngkin announced on Friday that Luna Labs USA, LLC will invest $200,000 to expand its Charlottesville operations and create 20 new jobs.   • A federal judge in Charlottesville sentenced former Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins to 10 years in prison on Friday.  29 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Virginia released redacted external review reports of the 2022 shooting that killed three students and injured two others; the Board of Visitors approved new safety measures—including a full-time threat assessment liaison officer and a permanent Emergency Operations Center—to enhance emergency response.  29 News
  • Former University of Virginia President John Casteen III died Tuesday at his Keswick home after a short fight with pancreatic cancer. He led UVa from 1990 to 2010 + improved the school’s funds, buildings, and diversity + a public memorial is planned for later in spring.  The Daily Progress
  • A bomb threat at Burley Middle School reminded officials that resource officers must work with law enforcement to have school-specific safety plans in place to prevent copycat incidents.  29 News

  • Charlottesville voters gathered Thursday, March 20 at the Freedom of Speech Wall to demand that Congressman John McGuire hold an in-person town hall since he has not met with them in his three months in office—his office did not respond to calls for a meeting—and they said his silence leaves many questions unanswered.  The Daily Progress
