  • James 'Littlez' Dowell’s Prolyfyck Run Creww brings neighborhoods together from the Jefferson School City Center by hosting runs, back-to-school drives, and setting up food & feminine hygiene pantries. The group, founded in 2019, plans to grow its community programs over the next 20 years.  Charlottesville Tomorrow

BUSINESS NEWS

  • DISH Network dropped WVIR from its channel lineup after rejecting an extension offer to carry the local station on air (viewers can still watch WVIR through cable, satellite, and internet providers) and customers may request a credit for the loss.  29 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The University’s Persian Cultural Society said its Beta Bridge mural, painted to call for free Iran and women, life, freedom, was defaced four times between Feb. 20 and March 11. The group urged the University to take urgent steps to protect its diverse student body.  The Cavalier Daily
  • The Thomas Jefferson Foundation and UVA announced today the recipients of the 2026 Jefferson Medals — the highest honors they present annually.  CBS 19 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cynthia Peck, the reading specialist at Fluvanna County Central Elementary, is named the 2027 Region 5 Teacher of the Year today, an honor that recognizes her as one of the best educators in the Commonwealth — the award spotlights her commitment to improving local education.  29 News
  • Charlottesville Middle School students showcased BioBots in the UVA Rotunda dome room last week, building and programming robots to mimic animal adaptations while overcoming coding challenges (a key learning moment).  Cville Right Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Orange and Louisa counties voiced concerns at recent Valley Link open houses, warning the $1 billion transmission line may harm local homes + farmland.   • City officials announced finalists for the future of the former Lee statue site on March 23; proposals will be reviewed before a final decision is made for the historic landmark.  The Daily Progress

  • Mobile Vet Solutions will visit the Fluvanna SPCA each month to offer low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for pet owners and shelter animals + the service aims to improve animal health locally.  29 News
  • RAM at U.Va. hosted its third Fishersville Clinic at the Augusta Expo Center on Saturday and Sunday, offering free medical, dental, and vision care for more than 400 patients in Central Virginia without requiring ID or insurance.  The Cavalier Daily

  • Virginia women’s swim team won their sixth NCAA championship on Saturday at McCauley Aquatic Center (Atlanta) by scoring 589 points and beating Stanford by 208.5 points. Four relay members set an NCAA record in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:05.26.  Cville Right Now
  • Virginia Cavaliers (83-75) upset #2 seeded Iowa in double overtime at Iowa City on Monday. Local star Kymora Johnson scored 28 points and coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton called tough plays as the team advanced to the Sweet 16.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia baseball won their rubber match against Wake Forest by a score of 14 to 4 on Sunday at Davenport Field — the win gave the Cavaliers their 20th victory this season. They will face Maryland in Fredericksburg midweek with first pitch set for 5:35 p.m.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia's top men's tennis team lost 4-2 to Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon at Wake Forest Tennis Center (15-3, 7-1 ACC), ending their ACC unbeaten run. The team will regroup ahead of upcoming matches at Florida State on Friday and Miami on Sunday.  The Cavalier Daily
