  • More than 300 volunteers built homes today at the Southwood redevelopment in Albemarle County during Habitat’s 2026 Women Build event, supporting local housing initiatives.  29 News
  • Foxfield Races and Camp Holiday Trails have extended their Spring Race partnership for five years, with Foxfield donating over $200,000 to support children and teens with medical needs (boosting opportunities for families). The ongoing effort strengthens local community programs.  29 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The documentary Pep Banned, about the U.Va. pep band and its history, is set to return to the Paramount Theater tomorrow (March 28) in Charlottesville. Created by alumni, the film preserves the band’s story and community spirit.  The Cavalier Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UVA paused its search for a new provost amid leadership changes and will reconstitute the search committee next academic year while interim provost Brie Gertler (appointed in March 2025) continues her role to maintain stability.  Cville Right Now
  • Founding dean Philip Bourne was remembered at a memorial service on Friday by colleagues, family & friends for his dedication to the school and community. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Valley Link and energy companies plan 115 miles of power lines across rural counties, and residents fear impacts on property values, noise, and the environment; the project will seek approval from Virginia’s State Corporation Commission in September 2027 plus local panels must review a new substation proposal.  Cville Right Now
  • Low Barrier Shelter Working Group presented a plan at City Council on Wednesday for a new shelter with 80 beds and support services in an updated building + a designed space for a health clinic. The project may cost between $8.6M and $9.9M as groups look to secure donor funding.  Cville Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Last weekend, more than 550 people received care at the University of Virginia student-led Remote Area Medical Clinic at the Augusta Expo Center. Volunteers and students organized the clinic to help neighbors in need.  CBS 19 News
  • UVA Health’s Blue Ridge Poison Center has seen a significant rise in kratom-related calls over the past decade — prompting concern about the substance’s safety.  29 News

  • Virginia women's basketball seniors Paris Clark, Romi Levy, and Caitlin Weimar powered the Cavaliers to their first Sweet 16 in 26 years through intense overtime wins on March 21 and 23 at the university (that contributed nearly 44% of their scoring).  The Cavalier Daily
