- ➤ As Charlottesville and Albemarle schools head into Spring Break, gas prices are nearly 50 cents lower than last year even though they rose 3 cents from last week due to the switch to a more expensive summer fuel blend. Morgan Dean of Triple-A MidAtlantic said lower demand and reduced crude oil prices have kept regular unleaded near $2.96 per gallon. Cville Right Now
- ➤ Albemarle County received a $613,570 Virginia GO grant to fund design work on the Rivanna Futures site, including plans for road access, grading, stormwater infrastructure — and utility extensions on its first 50 acres. - ➤ UVA leadership, including President Jim Ryan, sent an email this week to faculty and staff warning that discretionary spending will be sharply reduced as federal funding cuts put grant programs and contracts at risk. Managers were told to postpone capital projects, suspend off-cycle promotions, and review bonuses & hiring processes as the university works to navigate potential financial challenges. 29 News

- ➤ A 15-year-old local girl, Grace Riedl—who survived a low birth weight, brain bleed, and non-functioning kidney as a newborn and was later diagnosed with type 2 narcolepsy—was named UVA Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ Local Champion. She volunteers at UVA Health and competes in horseback barrel racing, following in her brother’s footsteps with the award. 29 News

- ➤ On Thursday night, UVA ended a five-game losing streak with an 11 to 8 win over Stanford as Jay Woolfolk struck out five batters in six innings (a key performance for the team). - ➤ The University of Virginia named Ryan Odom as its new head basketball coach as key players like Isaac McKneely have entered the transfer portal for better NIL opportunities.
