  • Charlottesville Tomorrow is hiring a full-time reporter to cover local news, including public institutions and higher education. The job, supported by Report for America — which requires in-person work at the Charlottesville newsroom and travel to events— offers competitive pay and benefits and will accept applications until filled.  Charlottesville Tomorrow

CULTURE NEWS

  • Artist Ceejay Renner-Thomas, an art teacher and operator of Milk Glass studio, won $5,365 at the New City Arts Initiative SOUP dinner on Feb. 28 at Jefferson School and will use it to host free glassblowing workshops in Charlottesville starting in May — he wants to make a space for people to hang out and learn — as part of his ongoing efforts.  Charlottesville Tomorrow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three UVa graduate students have received $3,500 each from the Battestin Fellowship program to support bibliographical research this summer.  The Daily Progress
  • Governor Glenn Youngkin changed the UVA Board of Visitors, sparking debate on higher education policies and future funding for DEI programs. Lee Elberson of Clayborne Test Prep warned that reduced federal oversight may force states to adjust budgets and risk higher college costs.  Cville Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVA Health is pioneering a new non-invasive treatment for liver cancer that uses ultrasound to break down tumors without surgery. The treatment is being studied as a safer option that may help patients recover faster.  29 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Virginia’s softball team, the Cavaliers, has boosted its offense this season—raising its hit average from .248 to .319 and slugging from .380 to .572—and now holds sixth place in the ACC. They have played well at home and on the road—strong extra-base hits drive close wins and narrow losses—and experts say their play may lead to a deep NCAA Tournament run.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Senior Jay Woolfolk led the Cavaliers to a win against No. 20 Stanford on Thursday night in Charlottesville by striking out key hitters and keeping his runs low. The team built a seven-run lead with early hits and closed the game with a clean final inning — they now lead the series.  The Cavalier Daily
