COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Schools from across the East Coast gathered at UVA on Saturday for the annual UVA Law Softball Invitational, which raised over $55,000 for local nonprofit ReadyKids.  CBS 19 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • 29News won seven awards at the Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters contest on Saturday, March 28, including first-place honors in best reporter and best spot news photography at WVIR-TV in Charlottesville. The wins highlight the local team's strong performance among entries from Virginia (and West Virginia).  29 News
  • Local potter Laura Vik — with nearly 20 years’ experience — is showing her exhibit A Study in Texture at C’ville Arts Cooperative Gallery on the Downtown Mall. The hand-thrown ceramics feature carved textures on vases and bowls that showcase her unique style.  The Cavalier Daily

  • Jemel Snyder, a Charlottesville woman with spina bifida, lost her in-home VA nursing care and may get help as Sen. Tim Kaine and Rep. John McGuire work to keep her from needing emergency room care at UVA Health this week.  3WV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Virginia lacrosse defeated Notre Dame 11 to 9 at Klöckner Stadium on Saturday, March 28, earning its third straight win with strong defense and faceoffs. The team will play Duke next Saturday as it looks to build momentum for the season.  29 News
  • No. 13 Virginia beat No. 24 Duke 4-2 in a hard-fought match as graduate student Melodie Collard clinched the win (Cavaliers 14-4, 7-0 ACC). The team will face No. 5 North Carolina today at 1 p.m. on their home courts.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Runners and walkers competed in the city’s oldest race on Saturday morning. The Charlottesville Ten Miler, which began in 1976, took participants through local neighborhoods and ended at (UVA’s Scott Stadium) to bring the community together.  29 News
  • Virginia dropped the series opener 5-3 to Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. and will try to even the series tomorrow at 2 p.m. when Max Stammel faces off against Eagle Tyler Mudd.  The Cavalier Daily
