CULTURE NEWS

  • The new season lineup for Charlottesville's Fridays After Five was announced on April 1 (it will launch fresh local segments to keep viewers informed) and promises an engaging schedule for the upcoming season.  The Daily Progress

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wintergreen Adaptative Sports will launch iCan Bike this summer at Albemarle High School from Monday through Friday the week of June 15, where riders with disabilities learn adaptive biking skills while organizers seek riders, volunteers, and donations (such as bikes or refreshments) to support the program.  Cville Right Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County staff from Child Protective Services, the Police Department, and partner agencies planted pinwheels on April 1 near the police building to honor Child Abuse Prevention Month and remind residents to report any signs of abuse immediately.  29 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVA Health donated $10,000 to six nonprofits in Virginia this week to honor Doctors’ Day — a move recognizing over 1,000 doctors serving areas including Charlottesville, Culpeper and Northern Virginia.  29 News
  • UVA researchers are using artificial intelligence to design drugs from scratch to speed up treatment development and shorten what is normally a years-long process. Their work targets neurodegenerative diseases (including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s) and makes free tools available to scientists for further research.  29 News
  • VIA Centers for Neurodevelopment marks 30 years of autism support in Charlottesville. The multi-location organization serves over 180 students, 150 adults, and 45 early intervention children and will host VIA Day on Apr. 24 with parties for families.  29 News
  • Region Ten held an open house today for its new administrative building and crisis center to expand crisis and behavioral health services in Charlottesville (the updated facility will broaden local support).  29 News

  • Virginia baseball beat Old Dominion 16-2 Tuesday at home as junior infielder Sam Harris drove in six runs with two home runs. The Cavaliers will face Florida State this weekend — a chance to secure a second series win over a top-10 opponent.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Three UVA veterans, Ryan Colsey, McCabe Millon and Truitt Sunderland, have boosted the team's offense and secured a three-game winning streak after upsetting Notre Dame. They will play No. 7 Duke on Saturday.  Cville Right Now
