- ➤ University professors say that University-sponsored supports such as eight weeks of paid parental leave and on-site childcare centers help them balance teaching and parenting. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Albemarle County supervisors approved new rules on April 2 to limit data centers in industrial districts to 40,000 square feet—data centers in commercial areas must obtain a special use permit and adhere to additional water and setback standards. The measure is part of a phased plan to manage data center growth and future impacts. 29 News
- ➤ Police Chief Michael Kochis announced that a work group including police officers, school board members, and community representatives will create a unique model to bring school resource officers back into Charlottesville schools. The school board voted on March 27 to revive the program—now the school division must plan its funding in the annual budget request to the city. 29 News
- ➤ A new Virginia law passed in 2025 awarded Deion Taylor over $580K after he was exonerated of robbery and firearms charges following more than 11 years in prison. Taylor, now working full-time and continuing his education, becomes the fourth client of the UVA Innocence Project Clinic to receive state compensation — his legal team had pursued a claims bill after his conviction was vacated in 2021. - ➤ Dr. Christopher Holstege from UVA Health Blue Ridge Poison Center said in a conference call on Thursday that taking Vitamin A supplements to prevent measles is unsafe because high doses can harm the liver and cause other health problems. He explained that Vitamin A is used only for treating malnourished measles patients and urged that vaccination is the best protection as misinformation spreads, including a recent measles case in an international traveler at Dulles airport. 3WV
