- ➤ Albemarle County Police are asking the public for help in identifying multiple suspects involved in a series of thefts at the Wegman’s at 5th Street Station, where over $18,000 in merchandise was stolen over the past six months+video surveillance stills have been released. 3WV

- ➤ Monticello will host its annual Founder’s Day weekend starting Friday morning — featuring remarks by Bryan Stevenson, a wreath-laying at Jefferson’s grave and a community partner tent with over 20 local groups — to honor Thomas Jefferson's birthday on April 13. - ➤ Monticello Wine Week will happen June 5-8 and it will celebrate Virginia’s wine region with events held across Charlottesville, Albemarle, Nelson, Orange, and Greene counties. The week will start with a winemaker’s golf tournament and reception on April 30—then feature a winemaker dinner at The Doyle, an awards night at The Bradbury, a rosé picnic lunch at Afton Mountain Vineyards, and a sparkling brunch at Veritas Farm & Winery. 3WV

- ➤ Charlottesville City Council passed a $265.2-million 2026 budget plan last night that is higher than this year's nearly $252-million plan. The plan will use higher assessed real estate tax bills to add more than $79-million for city operations and nearly $10-million for transportation and school capital projects — and tax rates will remain unchanged. 3WV
- ➤ Charlottesville officials unveiled a plan to narrow Fifth Street Southwest by removing a traffic lane and converting one mile into a protected dual-direction bikeway—extending from Cherry Avenue to Willoughby Square Shopping Center. An open house is held today from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Jackson-Via Elementary School’s gym—offering residents a chance to give input on key intersections in the final design. The Daily Progress
- ➤ Longtime activist Zyahna Bryant criticized the lengthy deliberations at the school board meeting on March 27 and announced she will run for the Charlottesville School Board in the November election. She supports better teacher pay, ending school resource officers, and expanding DEI protections, and she launched her campaign at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center on March 1—underscoring her call for bold leadership. - ➤ On April 7, UVA School of Medicine faculty senators sent a letter saying that complaints by health board members against Craig Kent and Melina Kibbe were money-motivated and part of a smear campaign.
