COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A pickleball tournament is scheduled for Saturday, April 11 at 9 a.m. at the Greencroft Club on Rodes Drive to support All Blessings Flow, a nonprofit assisting local residents in need. Registration costs $50 and the event will include raffles and prizes.  29 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Luke Combs delivered a sold-out show at Scott Stadium last Saturday in front of over 60,000 country music fans, with supporting performances by Dierks Bentley, Ty Myers, Jake Worthington and Thelma + James.  The Cavalier Daily
  • City council received an update on plans to transform bronze from the melted statue into public art that reflects unity+inclusion, presented on April 8 by Andrea Douglas of the Heritage Center. The center is showing the Swords into Plowshares project through May 30, with further updates expected later this year.  29 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local leaders move ahead with plans to return uniformed officers to schools even as community members share mixed views. The School Board voted in March 2025 to reinstate the SRO program and is vetting two candidates with further discussion scheduled for April 16 (School Board work session).  Cville Right Now
  • Mountain View Elementary received a $10,000 state grant to boost bilingual education. The grant will fund teacher training and help students learn to read and write in both English and Spanish.  29 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The FAA has issued temporary flight restrictions around CHO for Friday night, April 10, limiting flights to military, approved law enforcement and air ambulance aircraft (pilots near Gordonsville Municipal Airport may face delays).  29 News
  • City councilors approved $3.8 million today to redevelop 501 Cherry Avenue in Fifeville into a grocery store + community hub that will include a Music Resource Center and affordable housing to improve access to healthy foods.  29 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • ReadyKids, a Charlottesville nonprofit, has seen a surge in youth trauma counseling referrals (270 this year) and is launching a fundraiser to raise $80,000 in 30 days to hire an additional counselor to meet demand.  29 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • UVA Athletics announced on Wednesday, Apr. 8 that head football coach Tony Elliott would lead the team through the 2030 season (following a record-breaking bowl win last season). The contract extension reflects ongoing support at Scott Stadium.  29 News
  • Virginia women’s basketball appointed Aaron Roussell, the former University of Richmond coach, as its new head coach three days after Amaka Agugua-Hamilton’s departure. He is set to speak with media later this month as his 22-season career brings winning experience to the team.  29 News
