  • Melinda Moose Stargell and Amy Benson, former owners of the closed Moose's by the Creek, opened Boyd Tavern Market on April 19 with breakfast, coffee, and swag bags—serving local products at 4842 Richmond Road on Route 250 in Keswick. CRIME NEWS

  • Former general manager John Francis Van Peppen—63—pleaded guilty to embezzling over $100,000 from Greencroft Club outside Charlottesville by writing unauthorized checks from April 17 to May 2 last year, and his sentencing is set for April 24.  The Daily Progress

  • On April 18, picture-book duo Robbi Behr and Matthew Swanson visited Greenbrier Elementary School to share free books and give interactive lessons to Title One students. The tour included a session on making picture books and a surprise gift—a stuffed teddy bear from Build-A-Bear to serve as a reading buddy.  29 News
  • Tommy McNeal, a fourth-year lacrosse defenseman living at 36 East Lawn, balances a challenging 5-7 season with his studies in kinesiology while preparing for the MCAT and global health work.   • UVA's Chief Human Resources Officer John Kosky and Vice Provost for Global Affairs Steve Mull advised international students and scholars to contact advisors in the International Student and Scholar Program after one current student's and two recent alumni's visas were revoked last week — they said the university supports those affected and will track legal challenges to First Amendment and due process rights.  3WV

  • Charlottesville Police Chief Michael Kochis said officers face growing dangers yet get more mental health support & better training after being fired upon while helping Albemarle County police.
