COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Rocktown Rollers hosted a roller derby event that highlighted the Love Forward Foundation to promote local community support — details about the foundation’s work were shared with fans as the team took to the floor. The event offered a chance for Charlottesville residents to connect with the cause.  29 News
  • Charlottesville Tomorrow will host a roundtable discussion on rebalancing power through community-driven journalism on Wednesday, Apr. 22 (10:15 to 11:15 a.m.) at Common House as part of the Tom Tom Festival. CULTURE NEWS

  • A new exhibit, Then & Now: Charlottesville in the 1970s, featuring ten portraits by artist Frances Brand, opens at Vault Virginia on the Downtown Mall. The Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society presents the work as part of the Downtown Mall’s 50th Anniversary celebrations on July 3 with extra programming through August.  Cville Right Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • U.Va. officials reported high-risk issues in student services, IT, parking and payroll at U.Va. Health after audits between November 2025 and March 2026 — some problems remain unresolved for years. University leaders plan to use automation and AI to strengthen internal controls.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Student Council leadership transition is postponed after an election appeal disrupted appointments and budget planning, with incoming officers saying operational delays could affect new leader assignments. The University Board of Elections upheld the presidential race on April 1 + the appeal remains under review.  The Cavalier Daily
  • On Thursday, the Finance Committee set a 3.6% increase for University tuition along with 4.8% and 5% rises in meal plans and double-room housing for the 2026-27 school year. The committee also approved a $10 million upgrade to The Park & plans to add 3,000 University housing units.  The Cavalier Daily
  • The Board of Visitors named Jackson Sleadd as the new student representative and Jeri Seidman as the new faculty representative for the 2026-27 academic year during a meeting on Thursday. Their roles are non-voting and will begin next term.  The Cavalier Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city is asking residents to complete an online survey to guide its urban forest management plan, so community input can help shape tree care in the area + direct policy decisions.  29 News
  • The Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport held its triennial emergency drill Saturday morning to practice emergency procedures for aviation incidents. Officials from the airport’s public safety and county agencies (including fire and rescue teams) worked together to ensure readiness for Part 139 certification.  29 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nearly 1,500 spectators filled Ting Pavilion last Thursday night as the Fight Against Suicide boxing event drew 20 fighters from 10 fraternities and raised over $188,000 to support mental health services on campus and in the community.  The Cavalier Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Cavaliers lost their road series opener 12 to 4 to Clemson on April 18 after an explosive offense scored eight runs in a key inning. Coach Hardin said the team aims to rebound in Saturday’s game — avoiding a third consecutive ACC series loss.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia's lacrosse team rallied to force overtime at Klöckner Stadium yesterday but lost 16-15 to North Carolina before 4,025 fans. The Cavaliers will host Senior Day against Drexel on Friday at 2:30 p.m.  The Cavalier Daily
