BUSINESS NEWS

  • Two UVA alumni are expanding their eco-friendly agribusiness by opening a new pilot production and operation space next to their headquarters on Seminole Trail in Albemarle County. The expansion follows the startup’s launch in 2017.  The Daily Progress

CULTURE NEWS

  • Life-sized fiberglass Labrador statues will appear downtown this summer to boost awareness for Service Dogs of Virginia. Local artists painted 20 statues — sponsored by local businesses — which will be displayed across Charlottesville before a live auction on Oct. 24 to fund a new training facility.  29 News
  • The Tom Tom Festival returns to Charlottesville with a weeklong lineup of music, art + food vendors at local venues. The festival will take place this week to celebrate the city’s vibrant culture.  29 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Albemarle County Public Schools said Monday morning that students reported seeing a man removed by masked agents near a bus stop at Mallside Forest Ct. and Putt Putt Lane, while county and state police said they were not involved and no student was detained (counseling is available for those impacted).  29 News
  • Faculty Senate heard statements from candidates for chair-elect and Executive Council positions on Friday, with professors Block and Hynes outlining their plans; senators began voting Monday and will reconvene May 8 (2 p.m.) to review a resolution on election practices.  The Cavalier Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority reported its reservoirs remain nearly full at 99% despite ongoing drought warnings across Virginia. They continue to monitor water usage and support projects to strengthen resilience for longer dry periods.  29 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVA Health researchers say antiviral medications (that cure hepatitis C) are not reaching all patients across Virginia. The study reveals a significant treatment gap that may leave some without access to lifesaving care.  29 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • During Saturday’s spring game, UVA evaluated potential starting quarterback Beau Pribula who completed two passes and ran 11 yards in a 59-40 win. Coach Tony Elliott said Pribula’s dynamic ability may shape the offense ahead of the Aug. 29 opener in Rio de Janeiro.  Cville Right Now
  • Virginia basketball coach Ryan Odom is using the transfer portal to fill roster gaps left by departing players after a strong season, and he is evaluating candidates with playmaking skills and transition experience to keep the team competitive next season (roster changes are expected ahead of Atlantic Coast play).  The Cavalier Daily
