  • The Nelson County Sheriff's Office is looking for 22-year-old Katelynn Ann Hipes on warrants for second-degree murder and firearm use after deputies found 48-year-old Kevin Scott Small shot in his Shipman home last week and ask anyone with information to call (434) 263-7050.  3WV

CULTURE NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 21, Charlottesville City Council reviewed a housing update that showed the city spent $58.77 million on affordable housing while meeting most goals but serving only 35% of very low-income families instead of the 50% target. Officials said fees from new apartment projects—along with studies of a land bank and tax breaks—could push spending past the $100 million commitment in the coming years.  Charlottesville Tomorrow
  • The Charlottesville Police Civilian Oversight Board will host a community town hall at the Carver Recreation Center on Apr. 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Spanish-language assistance will be available) (board members will answer questions and address concerns about police practices).  Charlottesville Tomorrow
  • The Charlottesville City Council held a work session earlier this week to examine affordable housing funds from fiscal years 2022—2025 linked to a $100 million pledge. Officials said that $58.7 million was spent in three years and rising property assessments—up about $4 billion in six years—are reshaping the city’s funding strategy as they compare efforts with Albemarle County.  Cville Right Now
