- ➤ Community support helped Zizza Pizza bounce back after a January robbery hurt business at a struggling shopping center, and the pizzeria now serves more local customers + shows renewed promise. CBS 19 News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Johnson delivered his narrative stand-up comedy at Old Cabell Hall Tuesday as part of the University Programs Council’s SpringFest Comedy Show (a free event) that featured humorous takes on local architecture and modern anxieties while two opening acts warmed up the crowd. - ➤ Teacher Kate Fletcher ran 107 miles from her high school to Jamestown in the 10th Lion Pride Run to support college scholarships — she started at 8 a.m. Monday and finished at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday with cheering students. She has raised over $100,000 since 2016. Cville Right Now
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ UVA received a grant to cut food waste and boost sustainability efforts. The funding supports food rescue, composting, and waste prevention programs (aimed at keeping food out of landfills). CBS 19 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger and the General Assembly passed a law that creates a Paid Family and Medical Leave Program. The program (providing up to 12 weeks of time off for key family or health events) will see payroll contributions start on April 1 and benefits on Dec. 1, 2028. 29 News
- ➤ City officials and Charlottesville City Schools will pilot traffic safety improvements near Summit Elementary to address concerns during arrival and dismissal times. The pilot will launch soon in response to community feedback. CBS 19 News
