EDUCATION NEWS

  • Charlottesville City Schools and the University of Virginia are bidding for the former Federal Executive Institute, with the schools planning to use the property to consolidate administrative offices and preschool programs while UVa has not revealed its plans. Officials expect a decision as early as April 28—if selected, the deal will close within 60-90 days.  The Daily Progress

  • On Thursday, the Miller Center hosted PBS NewsHour correspondent Nick Schifrin at the fourth James C. Lehrer Lecture, where he shared his experiences covering conflicts in Ukraine, Afghanistan, and the Middle East—emphasizing that journalism should reveal the shared humanity in every conflict—while noting that traditional media now has less influence due to digital platforms.  The Cavalier Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Virginia’s men’s lacrosse team nearly beat No.9 Duke in overtime at Klöckner Stadium—Duke won 10-9 on a 27-second goal by Benn Johnson, leaving Virginia with a tough loss when they needed a win to extend their season. The game served as a crucial ACC Tournament play-in match for both teams.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia won a 6-5 baseball game on Saturday in Atlanta against No. 24 Georgia Tech as junior pitcher Bradley Hodges pitched seven shutout innings and allowed just two hits.   • Jonas Sanker, a Charlottesville native and safety at Virginia, was drafted 93rd overall by the New Orleans Saints on Friday. He becomes the 190th Virginia player in the NFL and the first Cavalier picked by the Saints since 1986—earning two First Team All-ACC honors and serving as a team captain during his college career.  The Cavalier Daily
