BUSINESS NEWS

  • Virginia Guesthouse Hotel and Conference Center opened its 214 room hotel on April 6 in Charlottesville near UVA with features such as a rooftop bar called The Perch and a large ballroom set for graduation events, while local leaders called it a new front door for the university.  Cville Right Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Backstage compiled a list of movies and TV shows currently casting local talent in Charlottesville (details available online). Local actors can use the list to explore new film opportunities.  CBS 19 News
  • Shakespeare on the Lawn’s rendition of Macbeth featured dramatic sword fights and heartfelt monologues at the Student Activities Building this weekend — the student-run show impressed the audience and set the stage for a Fall production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, inviting students and community members to join.  The Cavalier Daily
  • The 14th annual Tom Tom Festival took place downtown from April 22 until Sunday, featuring over 200 events, 400 artists and speakers, and 25,800 attendees (celebrating a theme of courage) as organizer Paul Beyer already plans next year's event.  Cville Right Now
  • The Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society — highlighting the city's past — will soon offer tours of a 1970s exhibit that shows how Charlottesville once looked. Local residents can visit the exhibit to learn about the city's history.  29 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Center for Nonprofit Excellence hosted its Spring Day of Learning event (a workshop series) that brought local organizations together for collaboration across the Commonwealth. The event took place today in Charlottesville.  29 News
  • College student Ella Gilmore began her term as chair of the University Board of Elections on April 1, outlining plans to boost communication, student engagement, and internal reviews amid a recent Student Council election appeal and considering a fall informational session.  The Cavalier Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Scott Wagner of Advanced Pain Management uses an innovative adipose procedure to extract 10 million stem cells per mL from patients’ fat for pain relief, with the treatment taking about 45 minutes to an hour and 10 minutes. He also sends 2 mL of cells to a certified lab for future treatment to help lower costs.  Cville Right Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Aidan Peters Memorial Classic returns this Saturday at Disharoon Park with games at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., followed by a public UVA baseball practice (free admission) as donations support the Aidan’s Lights Fund to install field lights at Pen Park in honor of a local baseball star.  Cville Right Now
