- ➤ Family Bike Day at McIntire Skate Park on Sunday, May 3 offered 150 free bike helmets for kids and safety lessons for riding on city roads (as part of Bike Month) to encourage less driving and more biking. 29 News
- ➤ Families gathered at Passion Community Church’s Riverside Campus for its annual Nerf and Nachos event, where kids and parents enjoyed Nerf battles, a nacho bar, and giveaways (a community favorite) that brought neighbors closer together. 29 News

- ➤ At UVA, first-year students face finals week stress as they prepare for final exams while balancing study and personal time (a common challenge for new college students) on campus. CBS 19 News
- ➤ Gov. Spanberger signed 21 bills that focus on K-12 education, including measures to help low-performing schools & keep parents informed of course registration deadlines. The new laws will go into effect July 1 and aim to raise test scores and update learning standards. The Cavalier Daily
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ At Bellair Farm (Southern Albemarle), manager Michelle McKenzie said spring drought and low rainfall are making it hard to grow salad crops, so the farm has relied on irrigation to keep plants alive. The work will continue until better rains arrive. 29 News

- ➤ UVA Health doctors are the first in the mid-Atlantic to implant a wireless pacemaker that paces the left ventricle in patients with heart failure. The new procedure avoids issues with traditional devices (like the need for blood thinners) and may benefit those with prior tricuspid valve interventions. 3WV
