  • Rivanna Riverfest celebrated the river at Rivanna River Company, where about 20 environmental groups set up tables to educate locals and offer outdoor activities such as tubing, nature walks, wildlife talks, live music, and salsa lessons.  29 News
  • The National Association of Letter Carriers held its annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive on Saturday, collecting nonperishable items for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.  29 News
  • Piedmont Master Gardeners held their annual plant swap today at James Monroe's Highland to offer a free exchange that supports sustainability in local gardening. The event gave community members a hands-on way to share plant care tips and promote eco-friendly practices.  29 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Crozet Arts & Crafts Festival returns to Crozet Park today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with over 130 artists, live demos, music, a children’s area, food trucks and free Mother’s Day wine tastings from noon to 2 p.m.  Cville Right Now
  • Local entrepreneur Claudia Hanna-Veysel will host olive oil flight tastings at King Family Vineyard on Thursday, June 4. The event offers locals a chance to sample olive oil varieties using a wine flight approach, building on her classes at UVA and JMU and promoting purchases online and at local stores.  Cville Right Now
  • The historic Red Hill estate is hosting a touring stage production that tells the story of Founding Father Patrick Henry’s role in our fight for independence as part of the US semiquincentennial (dates and venues to be announced).  The Daily Progress

EDUCATION NEWS

  • John M. Kronstain has been named principal of Jackson-Via Elementary School after serving as interim principal and holding several roles with Charlottesville City Schools.  The Daily Progress
  • Albemarle County Public Schools' new budget plan cuts some office positions and teaching assistant roles, while district leaders will invest in targeted programs. The changes aim to balance cost reductions with support for student success.  CBS 19 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Cavaliers won a tight 2-1 game Saturday & evened the series against the Golden Bears after snapping a four-game conference losing streak. They will face off again today at The Dish with first pitch set for 1 p.m.  The Cavalier Daily
  • No. 7 Virginia women's tennis season ended Saturday afternoon in Charlottesville with a 4-1 loss to LSU in the NCAA round of 16. The team—saying goodbye to three seniors—will return for the fall individual season.  The Cavalier Daily
  • Virginia coach Chris Pollard praised right-hander John Paone’s strong start that helped the Cavaliers secure the win over Cal in Charlottesville. Pollard said Paone’s performance set a positive tone for the game & boosted team confidence.  The Daily Progress
