  • Albemarle police officers worked behind the counter at The Market on Mill Creek today to raise funds for the Albemarle County Police Foundation, with donations supporting training, wellness programs, and equipment—this outreach helped officers connect with the community.   • Rico Lamont Walker Jr. — a 19-year-old implicated in a gang-related shooting north of Charlottesville last fall — was found with a 'shank' in jail.  The Daily Progress

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Economic analyst Jill Schlesinger joined Morning News and explained that trade talks between the US and China paused for 90 days—cutting tariffs on Chinese goods from 145% to 30% and on American goods to 10% while warning that a recession may still occur. She also advised graduating students to stay flexible in a complex job market by networking through thank you notes.  Cville Right Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin vetoed a right-to-contraception bill for the second year in a row, sparking debate on how to protect reproductive rights ahead of elections. Lawmakers compared the vetoed measure with a similar bipartisan bill passed in Tennessee (which would have allowed legal action if access were denied) and the issue remains a key talking point in state politics.  The Daily Progress
  • Albemarle County police and fire rescue are conducting simulated radio training exercises through Wednesday to test their communication systems. A public safety release urges residents to disregard any encrypted radio traffic they hear during the drill—there is no cause for alarm.  3WV

HEALTH NEWS

  • University of Virginia engineering researchers in Charlottesville developed a new AI tool called LogiRx (designed to speed up drug testing) that found seven promising drugs to help prevent heart failure. They tested 62 drugs and saw benefits from Lexapro in heart cells and preclinical models—with future trials planned to test its effects further.  3WV
