  • United Way has opened applications for small business grant funding to help local companies in Charlottesville and Albemarle County expand—eligible businesses are invited to apply and access growth support.  29 News
  • Gearharts Fine Chocolates in Charlottesville was ranked among USA Today’s top 20 chocolate shops — fans can vote to move it into the top 10; voting will end Monday, June 8 at noon and winners will be announced Wednesday, June 17.  29 News

  • Charlottesville will unveil Mel’s Walk on May 30 on West Main Street to honor Melvin Eugene Walker’s lasting impact in the community.  The Daily Progress

  • The U.Va. Alumni Association supports students' transition by connecting over 269,000 alumni with early engagement and career mentoring. It will host a Young Alumni Reunion on Oct. 10 (Ting Pavilion on Downtown Mall) for recent graduates from the classes of 2026, 2025, and 2024.  The Cavalier Daily
  • UVA’s Class of 2026 celebrated their valedictory exercises at John Paul Jones Arena today with former President Jim Ryan delivering a keynote address (urging the graduates to always do the right thing) as students received class gifts and awards.  29 News
  • University wrestler Kyle Montaperto shifted his focus from winning a national title to uniting athletes with peers + hosting events and fundraising for the Children’s Heart Center. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dominion Energy’s new three megawatt solar facility started in mid-April on top of the Ivy Landfill and now powers up to 750 homes — the company plans three more landfill projects to meet rising energy demand from data centers, electric vehicles and manufacturing.  Cville Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVA Health launches its Virtual Primary Care On Demand service today to offer online appointments for patients 18 and older, with pediatric care added in July for children 5 and up. The platform operates Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on limited weekend hours.  29 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Virginia's men's tennis team advanced to the NCAA semifinals after defeating Mississippi State 4-1 on Thursday, and will face top-seeded Wake Forest at 1 p.m. today (marking their third meeting this season).  The Cavalier Daily
