  • Caring For Creatures has introduced the Dan Schmidt Dog Pod, a new dog sanctuary building that honors Dan and Sandy Schmidt for their early support and care for rescued animals. The sustainable facility, built using recycled plastic bottles, will host a dedication ceremony later this summer.  Cville Right Now
  • ParadeRest, a local nonprofit, has set up memorial signs along Rugby Road to honor Central Virginia veterans ahead of Memorial Day. The displays remind the community to remember and appreciate the sacrifices made during World War II.  29 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The sixth annual Charlottesville Arts Festival continues today at IX Art Park after a rainy start, featuring interactive workshops, live performances, and chances to connect with local artists — a celebration of creative community spirit.  29 News
  • The Scrappy Elephant is a creative reuse center at McIntire Plaza on Allied Street that resells donated craft supplies to makers and hosts classes & community gatherings. Founded in 2020 and expanding to Lynchburg, the shop helps keep supplies out of landfills and supports nonprofits through its rewards program.  The Cavalier Daily

  • Three graduating University staff writers reflected on their favorite courses, traditions and Charlottesville locales that shaped their undergraduate lives.   • Robert Tracinski and Dr. Suzanne Krzyzanowski hosted a town hall today in Charlottesville to share their ideas on shifting presidential power and improving health care ahead of the Aug. 4 primary election.  29 News
