  • Crozet Volunteer Fire Department will host a Firehouse 5K, Kids Fun Run and Pancake Breakfast this Saturday at Fire Station 5 — the event is open for families and community members to join in a day of exercise and treats.  CBS 19 News

  • Charlottesville food expert Simon Davidson said that beloved sandwich shops Little John's and Chickadee closed + the Chickadee space may become a grocery market. Davidson also noted that Maple Tree Cafe opened at 920 9 1/2 St NE as Lauren McRaven Hockaday returned to make sandwiches and host pop-up events.  Cville Right Now
  • After 13 years with the organization, former COO and interim chief executive Andrea Copeland has been named CEO of the Charlottesville Chamber of Commerce.  The Daily Progress

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Monticello High School hosted a robotics competition for middle school students from across the district who built and programmed robots using this year’s first Lego League Challenge materials (an in-house event not tied to the national competition). Organizers said more competitions will be held later this year.  29 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Albemarle County Service Authority released its 2024 Water Quality Report and found no lead service lines in the water system while testing over 100 substances—including bacteria, disinfectants, and metals—to show the water meets all state and federal standards.  29 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Virginia Clean Cities at James Madison University announced that Dominion Energy will install EV chargers along JAUNT rural transit routes—using a US Department of Energy grant to set up a pilot charging network for transit vehicles and public use. Dominion Energy will provide the infrastructure and share results with other transit providers to guide future projects.  3WV
  • Gov. Youngkin vetoed a $1.37 million funding request for a 0.8-mile connector trail in Albemarle County that would have linked Biscuit Run to the new tribute park—local lawmakers and residents expressed disappointment and questioned the governor's decision after the General Assembly’s approval. Lawmakers argued that the small investment would have provided safe, accessible outdoor space for the community.  The Daily Progress

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors Foundation is partnering with local housing groups to build eight permanently affordable homes in Victorian Heights using a land trust model that reduces costs—$400,000 homes offered for $275,000—to help moderate-income families achieve homeownership in Albemarle County.  29 News
