- ➤ Mark Lorenzoni, Charlottesville’s Good News Czar, said a recent middle school track meet at UVA gathered 600 students from 23 schools and featured retired athletes helping on the field. He added that Jenny Schilling became an ACC champion in the 10,000 meters and mentioned upcoming events such as a Freedom Run for veterans, a Bruce Barnes Mile fundraiser and a Memorial Day community walk. - ➤ The Virginia Department of Forestry said it suppressed 437 wildfires from February 15 to April 30 that burned over 8100 acres and destroyed 66 structures (including 22 homes). - ➤ Real estate expert Michael Guthrie told Morning News that developers like Mr. Levine have abandoned projects such as a 200-unit mixed-use plan at the Downtown Mall because the new zoning ordinance has led to delays and uncertainty — a problem that has stalled projects and affected contractors and families.
