  • Parade Rest will host its 4 Our Freedom Fest & 5k on Saturday at Earlysville’s Panorama Farms to honor local veterans with a race, a kid’s race, and vendor booths. Proceeds will support nonprofits that serve veterans and the event will feature the story of a World War II veteran to mark the eightieth anniversary of the war.  29 News
  • For over 40 years, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank has fed families in Charlottesville and across central and western Virginia by working with more than 400 local partners—providing over 27 million meals and various specialized programs. Recent federal funding cuts will force the Food Bank to use more of its budget for replacement groceries—prompting a stronger call for community support.  Cville Right Now

CRIME NEWS

  • On November 8, 2024, an Albemarle County woman returned home and found two threatening messages on her door that led to charges against Virginia State Trooper Logan Pingley for extortion in writing after a delay of seven months. Pingley, assigned to the Charlottesville office, was placed on administrative leave and an arrest warrant was issued Wednesday — his personal bond is $1,500.  29 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • University of Virginia Professor Edwin T. Burton warned that rising tariffs on steel and aluminum are set to drive up prices and affect local projects, as reflected in lower than expected ADP job numbers. He advised that Charlottesville use its $30 million surplus to fix current programs and ease tax burdens instead of starting new ones.  Cville Right Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVA Health is starting a national program to treat connective tissue disorders (like Ehlers-Danlos syndromes) with support from a $3 million donation. The center will open in Fontaine Research Park (late 2025 or early 2026) and give doctors one place to help patients better diagnose and treat these conditions.  29 News
