COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Central Virginia Violence Interrupters lost $250,000 in federal funding and saw their local support drop from $200,000 to $94,000—leaving them with just enough funds to last until the fall, and they may not survive if additional grants do not bridge the gap. The group, which works to reduce gun violence on Prospect Avenue, now faces a dire future as funding appeals continue.  Charlottesville Tomorrow

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society is working with the Scottsville Museum and a UVA intern to study the Hatton Ferry site after the ferry was decommissioned in January for safety issues—research will continue this summer to prepare a nomination for the National Register of Historic Places by fall.  29 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Work is underway at CATEC on Charlottesville’s largest solar installation + the project will bring more renewable energy to the city.  The Daily Progress

  • Mayor Juandiego Wade and Vice-Mayor Brian Pinkston raised $68,000 for their joint City Council campaign while challenger Jen Fleisher raised $22,000 — the primary is set for June 17 and will be the first use of rank choice voting in this race.  29 News
