EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Albamearle County Public Schools extended Superintendent Dr. Matthew Haas’ contract through June 2028 with a 3% raise effective July 1 — he also received a $600 bonus. The board noted the adjustment matched that given to all regular employees to keep compensation practices transparent. Cville Right Now
- ➤ Neil Handa, a teen from Crozet, won first place at the Virginia State Finals of the National Civics Bee in Williamsburg earlier this month. He will next compete against finalists from across the country in Washington, D.C. in November. 3WV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ University construction is disrupting traffic and foot pathways on Grounds as work on the three-way intersection of McCormick Road, Rugby Road and University Avenue has closed McCormick Road for regular cars since May 19 and will last until July 18—additional work at Emmet Street and Jefferson Park Avenue has also altered bus routes with closures from June 9 until Aug. 1 to prepare for summer orientation. - ➤ Virginia Athletics will hold an introductory press conference—set for 3pm Wednesday—at Disharoon Park Fieldside Club to introduce new head baseball coach Chris Pollard.
