CRIME NEWS

  • Charlottesville Police are looking for 28-year-old Tylek Wade Burley (charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and felon in possession of a firearm) after a 30-year-old man was shot in the leg during a June 14 Downtown Mall dispute that may have started inside Fitzroy while 34-year-old Lorenzo McAllister was already arrested (charged with reckless handling of a firearm, concealed possession and discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school).  Cville Right Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Virginia Department of Historic Resources added four properties to the Virginia Landmarks Register, including the Thomas and Alena Hammond House (built in 1962) on Yorktown Drive in Greenbrier, the Shipman Historic District, Fairview Cemetery, and Cuckoo Elementary School that served Black students.  3WV

  • Mayor Wade held a rally in Charlottesville—where he endorsed Rouse for lieutenant governor—and his remarks aimed to build local support for the campaign.  29 News

  • Albemarle County Fire Rescue urged residents to stay alert for water and heat dangers as summer began, noting that moving water can be risky and advising proper hydration and CPR training — the department offers hands-only CPR classes (a free course for county residents).  Cville Right Now
