COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Charlottesville Parks and Recreation hosted a play all day event — a citywide celebration of the first day of summer that invited residents to enjoy outdoor activities. Organizers said the event offered families a fun and free opportunity to welcome summer in the community.  29 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After two years of planning, the Charlottesville Police Department will host its first gun buyback program on Friday, June 27th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church (near a recent shots-fired investigation on 1st Street South) and will offer gift cards based on the firearm turned in.  3WV
  • The City of Charlottesville is revising its short-term rental rules and is asking residents, property owners, and visitors to complete an online survey that closes June 30 — the survey feedback will help guide staff as they review other local ordinances and plan public sessions this summer and fall before the draft ordinance goes to City Council in early 2026.  Charlottesville Tomorrow

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, David Johnson will hike 11 miles on the Appalachian Trail to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s research and care as part of the Longest Day initiative. Over two dozen hikers with personal ties to the disease will finish at Three Notched Brewery between 1 and 2 p.m.—sponsors will donate for each mile covered.  Cville Right Now

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Michael Guthrie of Howard Hanna Roy Wheeler Realty said about 200 more homes have come on the market in Q2 2025 than in Q2 2024, and although home prices have risen 4 percent to 5 percent he urged buyers to act quickly to avoid losing equity. Local community partnerships are launching projects off Berkmar Drive — a move aimed at offering more affordable homes for families.  Cville Right Now
