  • The Virginia Wine Collective opened at 1585 Avon Street Extended today to support small-scale wine producers and serve dishes by Chef Andrew Partridge. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Charlottesville's Burnley-Moran Elementary School will be renamed Sunrise Elementary next school year as part of a citywide renaming effort—Chuck Moran, the great-nephew of former principal Sarepta Moran, now urges the school board to add plaques at all renamed schools so the original names and history are not forgotten. He said he only wants to honor his great-aunt's legacy while questioning the decision that grouped her with others from a troubled past.  The Daily Progress

  • Government phone lines are down in Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna — and Greene, though 911 calls still work and staff are working to restore full service with no set timeline.  3WV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Charlottesville pain specialists now use the new Intercept procedure to provide long term relief for patients with chronic low back pain — the minimally invasive treatment uses radio frequency waves to disrupt nerve signals and lets many patients return home the same day, with improvements usually seen between six weeks and three months.  Cville Right Now
