CRIME NEWS

  • Charlottesville police, working with the ICAC Task Force, arrested 33-year-old Thomas Samuel Caine after a May investigation led to a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of 10th Street NW and also arrested 25-year-old Daviyon Shelton on June 25 after an undercover online trap led him to Azalea Park—both men are held at the Albemarle/Charlottesville Regional Jail.  3WV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Matthew Steffens—an alumnus of the University of Virginia—returns to the stage at his alma mater as the Virginia Theatre Festival kicks off with the production of 'Into the Woods,' a play he first performed in Charlottesville as a student.  CBS 19 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials said the new joint courthouse for Charlottesville and Albemarle County faced a threat of closure when a rat infestation was discovered just one day before its scheduled opening. HEALTH NEWS

  • UVA Health received two anonymous $25 million estate gifts—bringing extra support to the Manning Institute and pushing the Honor the Future campaign past a $1 billion goal as it ends June 30. A new 350,000-square-foot building is under construction in Fontaine Research Park and will help researchers develop new treatments for difficult diseases.  Cville Right Now
  • UVA Cancer Center is expanding its Stay in the Game program during Men's Health Month to raise prostate cancer awareness with a new educational toolkit and upcoming summer events in Charlottesville and Danville.
