CRIME NEWS

  • Charlottesville police arrested 24-year-old Cole Robinson McNair for allegedly grabbing two women’s buttocks on Riverview Park’s trail on April 30 — he now faces up to 18 more months in jail as his previous suspended sentence may be reimposed if convicted.  The Daily Progress

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University President Jim Ryan resigned Friday, and students expressed shock, anger, and worry about his leaving and what it might mean for campus programs and student voices. Many warned that government pressure may lead to cuts in research funding and support for inclusivity—raising concerns about the future of the University.  The Cavalier Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Beacon Kitchen at 201 Carlton Avenue in Charlottesville received a $50,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Agriculture to buy equipment for its new phase, and the Fluvanna County Community Center Commercial Kitchen near Fork Union got a $7,400 grant to upgrade its facilities with a dedicated electrical circuit. Both kitchens are among a dozen recipients of nearly half a million dollars in state agriculture grants — a program by Governor Youngkin aimed at helping local food businesses.  3WV
