Good morning, Charlottesville.
Video surveillance from 2023 showed that on March 27 at about 4:10 p.m., a Charlottesville motorist struck UVa student Lydia Niguse as she crossed Emmet Street near the under-construction Contemplative Commons — the nearly 3-ton truck failed to slow for clearly marked crosswalk warnings and she suffered vertebral fractures and internal bleeding while the driver later pled guilty to improper driving.
Albemarle County held an open house on June 30 at its office building to gather public input on potential data center regulations addressing noise, energy use and water demands.
County staff said they would review comments and draft updated zoning regulations — a step following an ordinance that capped facility sizes — before hosting additional public hearings this fall.
