GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Major Camille Stewart began her new role as Albemarle County Deputy Chief of Police, bringing nearly 30 years of experience from Northern Virginia—she will oversee the Professional Standards division and the Investigations Bureau to promote accountability and public trust. Originally from Botetourt and previously based in Fairfax County, Stewart said she is eager to explore her new community and work closely with local teams.  Cville Right Now
  • After a traffic accident and lawsuit settlement, planning director Alexander Ikefuna left City Hall on June 11 — the city closed the Office of Community Solutions on July 1 and reassigned its staff to other departments.  The Daily Progress
  • On June 27, Gov. Youngkin announced four new appointments to the UVa Board of Visitors, which, if approved by the General Assembly, will make his nominees the entire 17-member board. The board is tasked with long-term planning and selecting a new university president following Jim Ryan’s resignation, and it is set to meet on Sept. 11.  The Daily Progress
  • Monticello’s west lawn is hosting its 63rd naturalization ceremony today as about 70 local residents take the oath of citizenship.
