  • The nonprofit Town to Trail will renovate a public pool in Gordonsville that is set to open later this month—federal grants and over $700,000 in funding back the project. The board said the pool will be the only public option between Charlottesville and Fredericksburg and will give residents a chance to swim and learn to swim.  29 News

  • Four University students pursued arts opportunities over the summer—Carlin Lacques interned at a museum, Will Conrad worked abroad in theater, Carson Harter attended a conservatory in New York, and John Barnes completed a television internship.   • The Wildlife Center of Virginia rescued a red fox in Albemarle County after it got a piece of a French drain stuck around its neck and released the animal the same day — rescuers spent hours freeing it without injuries.  29 News

  • Hundreds of new laws took effect in Virginia at the start of July—this set includes a seat belt requirement for all adult passengers and a ban on politicians using campaign funds for personal expenses, with other measures addressing waterworks reporting, AI fraud, and youth protections.  The Daily Progress
