- ➤ Charlottesville police arrested 35-year-old burglary suspect Marco Antonio Berberena-Perez on Friday after a more than two-hour standoff on Short 18th Street that started at 10:51 a.m. and ended at 1:20 p.m.—he had outstanding warrants from an October 28 incident. 3WV

Faculty Senate voted 46 to 6 in an emergency meeting on Friday to express no confidence in the Board of Visitors, saying the board did not protect the University and its acting president from outside interference. - ➤ Charlottesville officials approved a plan to renovate the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail with a reduced scope after tariffs raised construction costs, and work is set to begin Sept. 15—Phase 1 will demolish the east wing and replace it with a new two-story structure to meet updated safety standards while smaller improvements will be funded from the annual maintenance budget.
