CRIME NEWS

  • A block party on Orangedale Avenue turned tragic on July 4 when bullets injured five people, including a nine-year-old, and police say 20-year-old Anthony Hopkins was arrested on eight charges—he was also linked to a separate May 24 incident at Brookdale apartments.  29 News
  • ACPD, with help from the U.S. Marshalls, arrested a 20-year-old Charlottesville man, Anthony Hopkins, late Wednesday for a May 24 shooting at Brookdale Apartments—he now faces four felony charges including attempted malicious wounding, shooting from a vehicle, use of a firearm in a felony, and gang participation, and no one was injured.  3WV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a search of Hidden Creek Farm on November 3, 2024, a jury ruled that the Greene County sheriff’s office acted correctly in seizing six horses from the property. The horses are held at an equine rehabilitation center—where they will remain until they are adopted.  Cville Right Now
  • On Wednesday, Albemarle County supervisors approved a $230,000 appropriation from the Affordable Housing Investment Fund to support two affordable housing initiatives. One measure partners LEAP & AHIP to lower energy costs while the other uses navigation funds and HUD vouchers with the Piedmont Housing Alliance to help residents find and keep homes.  Cville Right Now
  • VDOT is inviting residents to share feedback on proposed changes at the Ridge and West Main intersection at a community meeting scheduled for August 14 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Carver Recreation Center — an online survey will also be available for comments.  Cville Right Now
